Easter Island
Easter Island, is a remote volcanic island in the Southeastern Pacific Ocean. It is famous for its nearly 900 monumental stone statues called Moai, carved by the island's indigenous people between the 13th and 16th centuries.
Named by Dutch explorers on easter Sunday, 1722, the island has a complex history, including the rise and fall of its ancient society.
